"Industry at Sunset" - Gallery 1

The 15th Annual New Haven City-Wide Open Studios festival featured a crystal theme, and its "Alternative Space" weekend took place in the now-vacant printing plant of the New Haven Register newspaper.

Combining these elements, I produced this installation, a crystallized commentary on the decline of newspaper publishing. A stylized sunset projects rays over elements that echo and frame shapes from the equipment behind. The sinuous curves evoke the path of the paper that once ran through the presses.

Using the same techniques described in Crystallizations, alum, table salt and Epsom salt solutions were crystallized directly onto five sheets of glass to form the composite image.
